CLEAR-PC

Cancer Literacy Education and Awareness Resources for Prostate Care

Description

The CLEAR-PC project addresses the critical issue of low health literacy (HL) and digital health literacy (dHL) in the prevention and care of prostate cancer, which is the most common cancer among men in Europe. Despite the progress in medical treatment, significant inequalities remain regarding patient knowledge, access to screening, and shared decision-making. CLEAR-PC tackles these challenges by co-creating, validating, and piloting resources designed to empower both patients and healthcare professionals. By focusing on the entire care pathway, from early diagnosis to palliative care, the project works to improve quality of life outcomes, particularly for vulnerable groups. Through a multidisciplinary consortium of universities, healthcare providers, and patient organizations, the project implements an inclusive, multi-level strategy. This approach combines education and collaboration to ensure that social and cultural contexts are integrated into modern healthcare solutions.

Objectives

• Mapping Literacy Levels: The project identifies (d)HL levels regarding early diagnosis, treatment choices, and palliative care through surveys and interviews.
• Analyzing Social Determinants: Researchers systematically analyze how social factors impact health competence and knowledge to ensure tools are inclusive.
• Strategy Design: CLEAR-PC develops and evaluates a comprehensive strategy to improve health literacy using Delphi procedures and prototype workshops.
• Clinical Piloting: The project pilots these strategies in clinical practice to support shared decision-making and improve patient health outcomes.
• Implementation & Dissemination: The team develops frameworks for the follow-up and further implementation of these resources across Europe.
